Kyla Morin is a 22 year old oil painter and fine artist. Born in Alberta, she grew up spending ample time in the outdoors with her family and friends. She learned quickly that her fascination and adoration for wildlife would be something she’d carry with her for years to come. From a young age she began creating, whether through drawing, painting, woodworking, or sewing- she always had a new endeavour to immerse in. She often found joy in making personalized gifts for her teachers, friends and family. After the loss of her father in 2016, she began to take painting more seriously. The act of putting brush to canvas brought her a sense of serenity and mindfulness amongst the devastation and grief. Since then she has continued to pursue her art in plentiful ways such as professional photography, poetry, tattoo work, and commissioned art. In 2022, she took her abilities a step further when she apprenticed in tattooing. Throughout the experience she learned to appreciate the history and evolution behind the art. In time she could execute various styles primarily in black and grey, with an interest and passion for American Traditional style tattoos.
Her inspiration derives from admiration for other artists, and often times common occurrences. It could be the sound of rain that sparks a memory, creating a vision for an art piece. Other times it is as simple as seeing an object, and pondering how its shadows form in regards to its light source. Or it’s going for a drive and appreciating the landscape and the species that roam about.
