About Joel

Joel has a structural approach to Osteopathy aimed at addressing the source of pain, whether its related to spinal discs, nerves, muscles, bones, tendons, ligaments or other structure of the body. Joel believes a key aspect to recovery is patient education. He will strive to help you understand what is causing the pain, alongside aspects that can facilitate healing and potential symptomatic relief of the condition. Joel prides himself on tailoring treatments and a management plan to complement the patient’s lifestyle. Joel completed his Bachelor of Health Science and Bachelor of Applied Science in Osteopathy at RMIT University in Melbourne, Australia. Though the majority of his training took place in Melbourne, Joel has also studied under Osteopaths and Surgeons in Mumbai and Goa, India. There, he had the opportunity to observe several procedures such as ACL and PCL reconstructions, whilst working alongside Shoulder Surgeons, Physiotherapists, Radiologists and Sports Doctors. This experience helped Joel gain a greater understanding of the role an Osteopath can play in the recovery of common sports related injuries and surgeries. Joel has spent the past year in Brisbane working alongside Physiotherapists, midwives and other health professionals in multimodality clinics. Joel’s treatment approach has been shaped not only by his university study, but by the many great mentors he has had. In addition to his training in Osteopathy Joel has completed further study regarding: - Management of pregnancy related bio-mechanical pain - The ways in which improper gym technique can cause musculoskeletal injuries - Peripheral and spinal joint manipulation - The application and benefits of Dry Needling, Cupping Therapy and Kinesio Taping Joel has been fortunate to experience a healthy active lifestyle participating competitively in Volleyball and Aussie Rules Football from a young age. He shared his love of fitness by working as a competitive swimming coach for several years, and continues to be active himself as a long distance runner. After suffering from a torn PCL at the age of 22, Joel has seen first hand how devastating it can be to have reduced mobility and constant pain, and how vital treatment and a recovery plan is. Joel strives to enable all bodies to experience the benefits of an active lifestyle confidently and pain free. Joel is excited to broaden his knowledge and experience by working in Calgary. Ask him how he wound up here… it’s a good story!

I can’t express enough my gratitude for such amazing professionals. 3 weeks out from my A race, the 70.3 World Championships and I injure my knee. I called the clinic immediately after I was injured and Joel spoke to me over the phone, easing my anxiety about not being able to race. Since then Joel and Jon have both spent time doing assessments, taping, making phone calls to arrange tests, follow up texts from Jon regarding results from Doc apt and setting future apts to see me in order that we have the best chance of racing. Everything happens for a reason and I believe that this injury was sent my way to make me stop and appreciate great people like Jon and Joel ...and to be grateful I can do this sport. If I don’t get to race at Worlds, it won’t be from the lack of attention or the eagerness of Joel and Jon to get me back in time. A sincere thank you!!
