About Heather
Heather completed a Master of Social Work through the University of Windsor, in addition to a Bachelor of Arts and a Master of Arts in Linguistics at the University of Toronto. At the Gestalt Institute of Toronto, she completed four years of training in Gestalt theory & methodology and Gestalt therapy & group work. She completed the Basic EMDR (Eye-Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) training. She has additional learning in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT). She registered with the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Services Workers in 2014.
As a Registered Social Worker, Heather has worked in community, hospital, and virtual setting in various roles - crisis worker, guided therapist, harm reduction specialist, and mental health clinician. She has an interest in systems navigation as a tool for connecting individuals with support and community. She is passionate about language - how our use of language impacts our experience and world-view, and how we can use language to support our mental and emotional health.
Heather’s therapeutic approach focuses on the experience of living and being human. She combines life experience and professional expertise to support individuals manage and enhance their mental and emotional health. Her practice is informed largely by Gestalt theory – focus on the present and the importance of the therapist-client relationship. She seeks to be trauma-informed and maintain an anti-oppressive practice; and she is always learning.
