Dean was born and raised in Saskatoon, where he attended high school at Marion Graham Collegiate and later completed his Bachelors of Science in Kinesiology at the University of Saskatchewan. After working for a few years, Dean decided to continue his education by pursuing a Masters of Science in Strength and Conditioning at St. Mary’s University, Twickenham, London, which he has successful completed.
