This was a very good bike fitting experience. Many adjustments were made to my bike (wider handlebars, shorter stem, positioning of shoe cleats, shoe inserts, seat adjustments (height, setback). The Retulfit program by Specialized was used for this. I was given a multi-page report with numerous recommendations of which I implemented them all except for changing out my seat to a slightly narrower one. I think the price of both sessions was very reasonable for the amount of service I received. This is more than your average bike fitting you get at a bike shop. I met first with Ruben at Connect Physiotherapy. They did an assessment of my strength, flexibility, areas of injury or concern and provided me with some suggested exercises to mitigate my issues. The next step was at United Cycle with my bike. Ruben, along with a bike specialist from United Cycle, worked with me for approximately 2 hours using a computer program to assess how I'm currently riding and sitting on my bike. They made suggestions and altered my seat and handlebars so that I'm riding in the most optimal way possible. They also suggested a few new purchases but I did not feel any pressure - they were very careful to not do any pressure sales. I've now ridden my bike over 100km since the assessment and I can honestly say that the changes Ruben made are beneficial and I'm riding more comfortably and definitely, more efficiently. A few things to note: 1. If you have a benefit plan that covers physio, almost the entire cost of this process was covered by our health plan. 2. I am not a super fit, young cyclist. I'm a middle aged retired teacher. I'm relatively fit for my age but I would never call myself an "athlete". This process is for anyone who likes to ride bikes and wants it to be a comfortable and enjoyable ride - it's not just for athletes or super bike enthusiasts.
