I grew up in a very small community called Loon Bay in the central part of
Newfoundland.
I completed my Bachelor of Nursing at Memorial University of Newfoundland in 2000.
Throughout my 22 years of nursing, I have worked within all ages and spectrums of
life, from premature infants to the elderly. Ten years of my nursing career was as a
Travel Cardiac and Trauma ICU nurse in the USA. The remaining seven years were a
mix of public health nursing, genetic research, clinical research and nursing program
development. I have had many enriching experiences while being a part of healing
journeys during some of the most vulnerable times in peoples' lives.
Then at age 40 I took the leap toward creating a nursing career that encompassed all
my passions. I left NL and spent 18 months in Colorado to intensively study a therapy
called Rolfing Structural Integration.
My UNIQUE offering to NL at this time is the complementary therapy called Rolfing®
Structural Integration. As a Rolfer™, I work with the fascia in the entire body from head to toe. Each muscle fiber, organ, nerve and blood vessel is surrounded by connective tissue called fascia. Each joint, bone, tendon and ligament is also wrapped with this multi-dimensional web-like tissue. Fascia is considered a complex sensory organ that weaves around, connecting with and ‘communicating’ throughout the entire body during times of motion and stillness.
Rolfing® Structural Integration is an interactive form of therapy where the Rolfer™ works with skillful techniques of both touch and movement requests while the client works with their own breath and small movement patterns. I am using my hands to assist the body toward alignment in the gravitational field where it can feel more comfortable and balanced.
Traditionally, this process is performed in the 10-series format. Please review the chart below (found after video link) for a description of the 10 -series or from this website
from the Rolfing® Association of Canada. https://rolfingcanada.org/iprs-10-series/
