My experience with Sather/Reed Sports Medicine was extremely disappointing from start to finish. The problems began with my referral from the Edmonton Bone & Joint Centre, which appeared to be lost or not properly received. After hearing nothing for two weeks, I had to follow up myself to find out what was happening. I was referred for a $525 out-of-pocket PRP injection for multiple calcifications, bursitis, and tendinopathy in my dominant left shoulder. Before the procedure, I tried to get more information about what to expect and was directed back to my referring physician. At no point was I adequately informed about how debilitating the recovery could be. The clinic also provided inconsistent instructions regarding anti-inflammatory medications. I was initially told to stop them for one week before the procedure. About 18 hours before my first appointment, I received paperwork stating two weeks, resulting in my appointment being cancelled and rescheduled. Then, approximately 18 hours before the second appointment, I received paperwork stating four weeks. After another phone call and consultation with clinic staff, I was told two weeks was sufficient and the procedure could proceed. At my appointment, Dr. Greidanus advised that the chance of success was approximately 50/50 due to the severity of my shoulder condition and suggested that having an MRI beforehand would have been beneficial because PRP would not help if tears were present. This was frustrating because I had specifically asked whether an MRI was important before proceeding and had been told it was not necessary. What happened after the injection was far beyond anything I had been led to expect. Within hours, I was in severe pain and ultimately required prescription pain medication from my family physician. More concerning was the loss of function. I was unable to drive, struggled to shower, could not do my hair, and could barely use my arm. As a self-employed individual, I was forced to take two weeks off work, and family members had to help with groceries, housework, and yard maintenance. When I contacted the clinic the following Monday, the only option offered was to come back to St. Albert for an assessment days later, despite the fact that I could not drive and live in Sherwood Park. Since the procedure, I have required multiple visits with my family physician and an urgent rheumatology referral due to what appears to be a significant inflammatory response affecting more than just my shoulder. I understand that no procedure comes with guarantees and that PRP may help some patients. My concern is not that I experienced pain; it is that I was never properly informed of the potential severity of the recovery, the possibility of significant disability, or the impact it could have on my ability to work and perform basic daily activities. Patients deserve clear, consistent information so they can make truly informed decisions. Based on my experience, I would strongly encourage anyone considering PRP to fully understand the potential risks and recovery challenges before proceeding.

I’ve been going to Advantage and seeing Norm for years, absolutely fantastic physio with years of great experience. Always quality work whenever I go there, and front staff is super friendly. Would highly recommend for sports related injuries!

I saw Emilie for some lower body pain and discomfort and she exceeded my expectations. She quickly identified the cause, provided careful and thoughtful treatment, and created an exercise and stretching plan that she went through in depth and made it easy to follow. I have gone in several times for maintenance and she has continued to provide the highest level of care in each appointment. I would strongly recommend booking in with Emilie if you’re looking for a new therapist.

I cannot say enough about Advantage Physiotherapy. After almost a year of terrible back and sciatic pain (and countless chiropractic adjustments and acupuncture sessions that didn't provide relief) - Advantage was recommended to me by my doctor. All of the staff are incredible, but special shout out to Koji. He was so attentive, patient and really tailored my treatment to help me get back to what I love doing. He took the time to explain everything thoroughly and truly made my time in the clinic not only helpful, but enjoyable. I would absolutely recommend Advantage to anyone.

Last summer I had a cycling injury where I broke my wrist. After surgery I attended physio and was recommended by my partner to go see Danielle Goertz. Danielle is a truly compassionate, patient and knowledgeable therapist who took the time to help me improve my mobility, encourage my recovery and offered invaluable expertise on how to help myself heal. I would highly recommend Danielle if you are looking for a physiotherapist that clearly knows her stuff and makes you feel encouraged and engaged to do the work to get better.

This place has changed my life. I love nothing more than to gush about Carrie and Tahisha. I’ve been seeing Carrie at Advantage Sport physio since 2014. When I started seeing Carrie (athletic therapy) and Tahisha (physio) I was weak and experiencing chronic pain daily. I didn’t have the strength in the right areas to have proper posture for studying and daily life. The two of them worked very well together to deal with the areas that were over used and strengthen my weak spots. (Particularly I was overusing my quads and neglecting my glutes, and I didn’t have enough strength between my shoulder blades to hold my upper back and neck in proper alignment.) Year after year I’ve seen significant progress and my pain has decreased to a very manageable level. Another issue I’ve had is my umbilical hernias that I could not have surgically fixed because I planned to have children. Carrie always finds ways to modify my work outs to decrease pressure in my abdomen and continue strengthening safely around my hernias. She has helped me recover exceptionally well after my first birth (C-section at 33 years old) by working in unison with my pelvic floor physio, and I feel like I’m in unbelievably capable hands to have her help me recover through my next pregnancies. Obviously with physio and training, you get what you put in as a patient. I worked extremely hard and trusted their judgement and I’m so glad I did. Carrie is kind, patient and fun to be around. I legitimately look forward to my appointments and feel supported by the entire staff at Advantage Sport Physio. Highly recommend this place - show up ready to put in the work!!!

I was refer to Advantage Physiotherapy by a friend. I was told to come see Emilie Brown to help me recover from my hip replacement. i was nervous, but she is such a pro and very personal and easy to work with. She made my recovery much easier and did wonders for me. All the staff is very personal and professional I would recommend the whole staff for any type of recovery you might need. Thank you again Emilie and all the staff at Advantage off Ellerslie road.

Advantage sports medicine is the ultimate standard for physiotherapy. I moved to Advantage after an unsettling experience at another clinic. Austin repaired my dismay regarding physio. He is phenomenal and has provided an unmatched level of care to deal with my ongoing injury. Stretches and exercise programs have provided me with relief and coping mechanisms in daily life. His enthusiastic attitude constantly changes my outlook regarding my injury while turning my day around regardless of the circumstances. I always look forward to seeing Austin because it's usually the highlight of my day and an excuse to leave the library early. I recommend Advantage and Austin to anyone who is looking for treatment.

I have been coming to Advantage for Physio following my knee surgery and would definitely recommend this clinic. First of all, the front desk staff are friendly, helpful and organized which made the booking process easy. The space is modern, the gym is fully equipped and I love the private treatment rooms. My physios (I saw Norm and Austin) we’re incredibly knowledgeable and patient. They took their time to go through my treatment plan, made sure I knew what to do on my own and followed my progress as I healed. I would 100% come back here. Thank you for your care!

Highly recommend Emilie at Advantage Sport Medicine Physiotherapy. I was recommended to the doctor across the hall, who then referred me here. I have been going here for past 4 weeks. Emilie is very knowledgeable, kind, respectful and honest. She has made me feel comfortable telling her exactly how I feel without judgments. She has taken the time to explain my injury and the recovery plan in a language I can understand. She has gone out of her way to provide me with more information and exercise I can do at home to help my recovery. She cares about my success ALMOST more than I do. Every time I walk in the ladies are always all so kind. (Sorry, not being sexist or biased- there's never males around when I am there). Flexibility for working around my schedule has been amazing as well. Hands down, if I ever need physio again in future, I will never go to anyone else. Highly recommend this facility and more specifically ,Emilie. Thank you !
