“I want to start by saying that it's obvious our healthcare system is under incredible strain, especially right now. It's no secret that wait times have increased over the years and that hospitals aren't receiving the support they need. I truly believe many of the people working in healthcare are doing the best they can under very difficult circumstances. Unfortunately, I've had several visits to this hospital over the past few weeks while dealing with some ongoing medical issues that I won't get into here. What I do want to talk about is my experience. I came into the emergency department with chest pain and symptoms that could have been a heart attack. When I first approached the front desk, I felt like I wasn't taken seriously. I got the impression that I was being looked at as though I was overreacting or possibly under the influence of drugs, which couldn't be further from the truth. I don't use drugs, I don't drink alcohol, and I don't even drink coffee anymore. I was told to wait because the staff member was busy while I was bent over in pain. By the time I was finally taken for an ECG, I fainted while walking to the bed. So why am I giving this hospital five stars? Because two people completely changed my experience. The first was a paramedic. I don't even think it was his responsibility to personally care for me, but when I collapsed, he helped lift me onto the ECG bed. Once I became more aware, he stayed with me. More importantly, he listened. He was the first person who truly heard what I had been experiencing instead of just focusing on whether I was actively dying. He couldn't solve my medical problem, but he gave me something just as valuable in that moment. He listened, offered thoughtful suggestions, and helped reassure me that I was in the right place and that I was doing the right thing by seeking medical attention. The second person was a nurse named Megan. After multiple visits where I often felt ignored or like the goal was simply to determine I wasn't dying and send me home, Megan treated me completely differently. She took the time to sit with me, listen to everything I had been experiencing, answer my questions, offer suggestions, and help me make informed decisions about my care. She treated me like a human being who was scared and looking for answers. I want to be very clear that I'm not writing this as a criticism of the hospital staff as a whole. I genuinely believe most of the doctors, nurses, paramedics, and support staff want to help people. The problem, from what I witnessed, seems to be an overwhelmed healthcare system with too many patients and not enough resources. I honestly can't imagine having to work under those conditions every day. What I do want to do is recognize Megan and the paramedic who helped me. Their compassion, patience, and willingness to simply listen made an enormous difference during one of the most frightening experiences of my life. I wish I had gotten the paramedic's name because he deserves recognition as well. To both of them: thank you for reminding me that compassion is just as important as medicine. I sincerely wish you both nothing but success and happiness in your careers.”Read moreShow less

“Disappointed in the very rude service I received from the general information phone reception when I returned a message(from a Dr unknown to me)left on my phone originating from BH. The receptionist was no help in advising me how to return the call as I did have the Dr’s name. I then called BC Cancer after my own research and they were very helpful as I had to look the Dr up only to realize he was an oncologist so hopefully you can appreciate my concern and disappointment. Her final comment was just consider it a mis-dial.”Read moreShow less

“Re: Burnaby Hospital, Medical Imaging: "I Don't Have The Time" My family doctor faxed the CXR requisition to Burnaby Hospital Medical Imaging for me to do the CT at the same time. I was asked to call the BH to make sure that BH received the CXR requisition so that I don't have to be running around for appointments. Two day prior to my CT appointment, I phoned Medical Imaging and explained my request to a lady with an abrupt attitude. She wasn't willing to help or check but said arrogantly, "I don't have the time. If we received, we received. Nowadays, the technology is pretty good." She didn't want to talk further and the conversation ended abruptly. Serving the general public with a good heart and a kind attitude is of great importance. It is inappropriate to say, "I don't have the time" as an excuse for not doing the job well. It doesn't take a minute to check as the technology is so updated. No doubt, it is very easy to give a helping hand with a loving heart & a big smile rather than saying, "I don't have the time"! June 24, 2026”Read moreShow less

“I recently visited Burnaby Hospital and had a positive experience overall. The doctors and nurses were professional, compassionate, and took the time to explain everything clearly. While there was a bit of a wait, the care I received made it worthwhile. The staff worked hard to keep everything organized, and I felt well looked after throughout my visit.”Read moreShow less

“I recently visited Burnaby Hospital and overall had a mixed but generally acceptable experience. The hospital staff were working very hard, and some of the nurses and doctors were professional, helpful, and kind despite being extremely busy. It was clear the hospital was under a lot of pressure, which contributed to very long wait times and a crowded environment. While the medical care itself was good once seen, the experience in the waiting areas was challenging. At times, staff communication and interaction could have been a bit kinder and more patient-focused, especially during stressful moments. The emergency department was very busy, and this clearly affected overall service speed. However, once treatment began, the doctors and clinical care were solid and reassuring. Overall, the hospital provides good medical care, but improving wait times and encouraging a slightly kinder, more reassuring approach from some staff would make a meaningful difference in patient experience. The Girl named prabh who is a nurse in emergency was the best helper in my stressful situation with my child .”Read moreShow less

“I would like to thank the emergency department at Burnaby Hospital for their excellent care. And I was treated quickly and professionally. The doctor and medical staff were very kind, respectful, and attentive throughout my visit. And I really liked the way how they treated the patients specially for the older patients. And would like to call them the Engels of Mercy not just a nurse. Shoutouts to D.Chomin James I truly appreciate the effort and dedication of the entire team. Thank you for your great service and care.”Read moreShow less

“Came through the ER recently & the wait was quite long, 6 hours total, however the site is understaffed and busy! But every interaction with staff was polite, friendly & professional. I felt the staff were doing the best with what they’ve got. Dr Armstrong was incredibly kind, patient, personable and jumped right in - what a great doctor. I felt they prioritized appropriately and when it got to my time I received great care and attention and they checked the boxes. Thank you Burnaby Hospital ER staff for a positive experience during a stressful time.”Read moreShow less
